Vrboska - Island Hvar - Croatia

Vrboska the town and port on the northern coast of the island Hvar, situated in a deep bay was inhabited in the XV. century. Because of its location, Vrboska is ideal for boaters and has ACI marina with about 120 berths on land and at sea. The main economic activities are agriculture, fishing, olive cultivation and of course tourism. Vrboska is a place long fishing tradition, perhaps the longest on the island of Hvar and has a fishing museum. The most famous building in Vrboska is the church of St. Mary, also built in the fifteenth century, and the 1580th rebuilt into a fortress. Its architecture is one of the rare buildings of its kind. From the top of the church of St. Mary's offers a wonderful view of the countryside and the open sea.

Also is known the churche of St. Lawrence, in which they are exposed to the masterpieces of Venetian Renaissance and Baroque periods, and recent domestic painting. Among the larger towns located near Vrboska there are Jelsa (3 km) and Stari Grad (9 km).
